Drugstore Foundation Review

1. NYC smooth skin liquid makeup - Around £3.99

Superdrug link:http://www.superdrug.com/foundation/nyc-smooth-skin-liquid-makeup-natural-buff/invt/365505/&bklist=

The Packaging:

The bottle is simple, a glass bottle with a black screw on lid. It doesn't come with a pump, but this isn't a problem for me. The opening at the top of the bottle is large enough to dip a foundation brush or finger into the product, this way you don't waste any. The bottle also includes the basic information about the product, it is oil free, contains 29.5 ml / 1.0 fl oz, it is not tested on animals :) WHICH IS A GREAT THING !, the colour shade (in my case, it is h671u sandy beige, and also directions. It claims to give flawless coverage, absorbs shine without clogging pores, and is suitable for all skin types. This foundation is also fragrance free, which is great for sensitive skin. I have found the best way to apply this foundation is with my fingers or a foundation brush (i use the no7 foundation brush).

The product:

The product comes in 5 shades, which range from light to dark skin. You may not be able to find a perfect match, but you will be able to find one that's pretty close to your natural skin tone. The product is quite thick, and hard to pour out of the bottle without letting out too much product. As i quoted before, it is easier just to dip a cotton bud or foundation brush into it to get out the right amount of product. This foundation shade is a very good match for my skin tone. It didn't look or feel oily or greasy, but i don't know how it would handle shine because i have dry skin. It wasn't drying on the skin and was very easy to blend, i did half my face, then the other half as it tends to dry quite quickly, this way, it is easier to achieve a flawless finish. I would say this foundation gave medium coverage which is perfect for me.

Overall, i would give this foundation 4 1/2 stars out of 5 and would recommend it to a friend.

2. Maybelline Dream satin liquid - £7.99

boots website:http://www.boots.com/en/Maybelline-Dream-Satin-Liquid-Foundation_866883/#
Maybelline website:http://www.maybelline.co.uk

The Packaging:

This foundation comes in a glass bottle with a clear cap, it is also supplied with a pump. This makes applying the foundation alot easier as it distributes the right amount of product, and little is wasted. The pump and bottle are very sturdy and sleek. The packaging also shows information about the product. It claims to be a air whipped formula for a air brushed finish. It says it has the lightness of a mousse in a liquid foundation and offers a flawless finish. The packaging also tells how much product is inside (30 ml) and the shade (in my case, 010 ivory).
The product:

The formula of the foundation is quite thick, however it is not cakey. It is very lightweight and does not clog pores. It dries to a flawless finish, similar to that of the maybelline dream matte mousse, however it has more of a satin look. 8 shades are available, and as i find with most maybelline foundations, they are all true to skin tone shades, and not orangey, which can be a problem with some drugstore foundations. This foundation looks quite natural and gives you that youthful glow. It doesn't feel oily and greasy on the skin, in fact it feels like you aren't wearing foundation. it gives me a medium coverage, which is perfect for everyday use. this foundation is a great alternative to the dream matte mousse if you have dry skin like myself. it doesn't cake up on dry patches - but it is always best to moisturise first.

Overall, i would give this foundation a 4/5 :)

3. Collection 2000 lasting perfection ultimate wear foundation - £5.99

boots website:http://www.boots.com/en/Collection-2000-Lasting-Perfection-Foundation_984439/
collection 2000 website: http://collection2000.co.uk/products/face/foundation/lasting-perfection-foundation/

The Packaging:

The product comes in a long glass bottle, with a black plastic cap. it is also supplied with a pump. when i first purchased this product it was lovely to use, the pump distributed just the right amount of product, so none was wasted. however, after about 3 weeks of daily use, the packaging basically fell apart, that's the best way to describe it. the plastic cap split, the lid of the pump cracked and half fell off, the pump got blocked up, and then the little plastic tube of the pump fell of. i don't know if this was just a fault with my bottle, however i felt that the pump was very low quality, compared to maybelline and other drugstore foundations around the same price. In my opinion, this would be a much better product if it came with no pump. however, this problem didn't effect the product inside, and when i removed the pump, it was easy to just dip in a cotton bud and then apply to my face. The outer packaging clearly shows important information like the name of the product, SPF 20 (which is great for summer), oil free, 16 hour wear and more.

The Product:

This product claims to appear fresh for up to 16 hours, is anti transfer, oil free, contains sun protection factor of 20 and also claims to dry to a flawless finish . My shade is ivory /2, and this is a very good match to my natural skin tone. the foundation is available in 6 shades, and there is quite a large range of colours for light to dark skin. I think the best way to apply this foundation is with a foundation brush, and then blend out with fingers, however you have to work quite fast because it dries quickly. it dried to a Matte finish, and didn't feel thick and oily on my skin. it is oil free, and also has SPF 20, so this would make a excellent summer foundation, as it will keep oil at bay, and also protect us from the sun. as for the claim to last up to 16 hours, this didn't really work for me. it lasted around 6/7 hours before fading, however this may change depending on your skin type. most foundations tend to fade very quickly on my skin, so this was quite long lasting compared to others I've tried. it provided medium to full coverage, and didn't transfer terribly, however there was slight transfer on some fabrics.

overall i would give this foundation a 2 to 3/5, just because the packaging really let it down :(

4. Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse - £6.99

Maybelline website:http://www.maybelline.co.uk
Boots website:http://www.boots.com/

The Packaging:

This product comes in a glass jar, with a plastic screw on lid. the lid has a quirky angle to it so it makes it unique. It is very sturdy, as the plastic lid is very high quality, and the glass on the bottom is very thick. It is quite heavy, however it is very small and compact, so perfect for carrying around.

The Product:

The product itself is very easy to apply and blend. its great for beginners as the only way to really apply it is with your fingers. it has a mousse texture, and it very lightweight and air whipped. the feeling of this foundation is very different to a regular liquid foundation and i would recommend testing this out at your local pharmacy just to get a feel of the texture because it is very different. this foundation sets to a texture that feels like a mixture between a liquid and a powder foundation. it gives your skin a flawless finish, and feels lovely and smooth to the touch. you don't use much as a little bit goes a long way. It is easy to apply during the day, as it isn't as much hassle as trying to apply a liquid foundation. you don't really need to set it with a powder, however i like to because it keeps it on a little bit longer and really sets it into the skin. this foundation is very popular with teens as it is very simple to apply and doesn't feel heavy on the skin. as i have dry to normal skin, i don't have a problem with oils, however i have been told by friends with oily skin that this didn't work well for them. i sometimes suffer with dry patches on my skin, and this foundation can come across as patchy and cakey on those areas, however if you use a thick moisturiser before the application, this problem doesn't usually occur. i like to use astral all over moisturiser, and leave it to settle into my skin about 10 minutes before i apply my makeup in the morning. i use the shade 020 cameo, and this is the exact shade of my skin. maybelline foundations usually come in true to skin tone shades, and don't usually come across as orangy. This foundation is available in 15 shades, from pale to fairly dark skin. so you shouldn't really find it difficult to find a shade right for you. i found my perfect colour first time, but it is usually best to test out testers in the store. this foundation fades after around 4 hours, however i find that because it is so easy to apply, touching up throughout the day isn't really a problem.

i would give this foundation a 4 out of 5, and definitely recommend it to a friend.

No7 Stay Perfect Foundation - £14.50

Boots website:http://www.boots.com/en/No7-Stay-Perfect-Liquid-Foundation_867014/

The Packaging:

I love the packaging to this foundation, it looks very expensive, and very sturdy. It comes in a frosted glass bottle that slightly dents in the middle, and a black plastic lid that has Burgundy reflects on it. the no7 logo is imprinted in gold on the lid. The bottle has a pump, that is connected to the bottle by a gold metal band. the pump has a cover, so if the lid comes off in your bag, the foundation won't go everywhere. The pump is very sturdy, as well as the bottle itself. on the bottle is information about the product, including the name, colour (in my case 05 cream) and directions how to apply it.

The Product:

This product claims to contain a beautifying complex of soft focus pigment to minimise fine lines and blemishes. I can't comment on the minimising fine lines part as i have none, however it does give your skin a very youthful look. it contains a sun protection factor of 15, which is very good to protect your skin from the sun (any time of the year) and is also hypo- allergenic, so is suitable for sensitive skin. There are 8 shades available, however i found that it was hard to find a perfect shade as they all looked pretty similar. most of the shades were for medium skin tones. sadly, there was no options for pale or deep skin tones. Another problem i had with my shade, is that it is very orange toned. i think it would be best to get tested at the no7 counter for your ideal shade. this foundation has a slight smell, however it is not unpleasant. in my opinion, it smells like suncream, which i personally love, because it reminds me of being on holiday , all year round! :) this foundation is very thin, but easy to blend and stays put quite well throughout the day. it lasted around 6/7 hours on my skin, but this was at school doing sports and in different weather changes.

Overall, i would give this foundation a 4/5.

Natural Collection Tinted moisturiser - £1.99

boots website:http://www.boots.com

The Packaging:

This tinted moisturiser comes in a clear squeezy container, and has a cap at the end that flips open so the product can be distributed. The packaging is simple, and has the natural collection logo and what type of foundation it is. I like the packaging becuase it doesnt make any fancy claims that it wont achieve. its just nice and simple. on the back of the bottle there is a brief description of the product- a light, sheer cover for a natural-looking finish. contains moisturisers to leave your skin feeling supple and soft. suitable for all skin types. It also show how much it contains, 40ml, which is more that a normal foundation.

The product:

This product gives a light coverage, and doesnt feel cakey and heavy on the skin. it is fragrance free and doesnt leave your skin feeling dryed out. i would reccomend this foundation for younger girls who dont need alot of coverage, but like the idea of wearing some kind of foundation. it would be good for school, as it isnt going to run off your face, it would also be good for on holiday. One problem i do have is the shade range, there are only three, however it wont be very noticable if the shade is a bit off

i would give this foundation a 3 to 4/5 :)

Natural Collection Colour Foundation - £1.99

The Packaging:

Basically the same as the tinted moisturiser :)

The Product:

Im not very impressed with this product, when it came out of the bottle it looked very grey, and it was very hard to blend. it dried looking streaky and patchy. There isn't a large colour range either like the tinted moisturiser, there is only three very similar colours. It seems weird to say this but it kind of made me look grey and dead :O. i really wouldnt reccoment this, and maybe try the shine free foundation, however i havent tried that.

overall i would give this a 2/5
